Why Wearing Proper Shooting Glasses is an Absolute Must
You’ve heard the stories, whether from a friend, family member or maybe even a stranger at the shooting range; the stories about eye injuries or near misses from ricocheting bullets or shrapnels, sending hazards flying into or at least grazing eyes, eyelids, under-eyes, and more. Hunters and outdoorsmen have even been injured by twigs and branches ricocheting or just obstructing their paths as they make their way through the woods, all due to lack of proper eye protection. You may think that this could never happen to you, because you’re more careful than the other guy, but without taking preventative measures you could be risking your vision.
Some of the reasons why shooters wouldn’t want to wear shooting glasses might be the comfort level, or the feeling of line of sight being obstructed. Some shooters also cite fogging to be a nuisance when it comes to wearing glasses or goggles, which ends up impairing vision and defeating the purpose. Others still feel that they are sufficiently protected by the prescription glasses that they already wear.
However even the most expert marksman can’t foresee a loose shrapnel or other flying object flying back at their eyes. For those that wear regular prescription glasses are still vulnerable, as these glasses have a gap all around the lenses in which pieces of debris can still get under and cause serious damage and even result in vision loss.
Proper protective eyewear for shooting should provide safety across several fronts including:
- Visibility
- Anti-Fogging Features
- Comfort
- Full coverage
- Lense adaptability for different lighting situations
One brand that delivers all this and more are the Radians Shooting glasses. The Radians Shooting Glasses include a rubber nosepiece and rubber temple pads for ultimate comfort and fit. They also have a sleek, lightweight design with adjustable temples so that they sit snugly on the face, covering the entire eye area, with no exposed gaps where metal or projectiles could fly under, but never constricting airflow, therefore preventing fogging. They also feature ultimate adaptability, allowing the wearer to easily switch lenses for difference in lighting in the environment.
Hunters can choose between a variety of colors. The tinted lenses are polarized, thus reducing glare and enhancing visibility. Yellow lenses allow hunters to see better under poor weather conditions or less than favorable lighting such as during overcast days and enhance visibility on snow days by maximizing the contrast so hunters can spot hard-to-see game such as pheasants or hares. Orange and copper lenses help in better weather conditions when there is more light by separating light from shadows, enhancing color. Finally, the black lenses are all-purpose and multi-functional, working with any lighting, blocking glare or the sun’s rays while at the same time enhancing shadows. These interchangeable lenses aren’t only great for outdoor hunters, but also for those in target practice. Using the yellow tinted safety glasses makes the white in a black and white target look yellow, therefore enhancing the contrast between the now yellow and black, allowing better precision for the shooter.
As it is with any sport, safety measures have to be taken in outdoor hunting and shooting ranges. Without some kind of protective eyewear, one may risk possible eye injuries that may even lead to loss of sight. Radians Shooting Glasses provide this protection all while bringing comfort and enhancing visibility.
