Ways To Decorate The Space Above Kitchen Counters

Many homeowners overlook the importance of decorating the space above their kitchen cabinets. After all, it’s not like many people look this high up, so what’s the point in decorating it? Well, adding some subtle accessories and elements will help bring the surrounding kitchen decor together, creating a more attractive atmosphere when done correctly. Depending on how many cabinets are in your kitchen, you might have a good bit of unused space, so take advantage of this by decorating it.

Plates and Fine China

One of the easiest ways to fill up the space above kitchen cabinets is to line then with some of your more decorative plates and fine china. If you have “special” dishes that you want to display somewhere in your home but haven’t found a suitable place to, try lining them around the tops of your kitchen cabinets. It’s really the perfect area for showing them off, as it naturally goes well with most traditional kitchen decorations.

Of course you’ll need to make sure that any plates or fine china set up above the cabinets are well-secured. When family members start opening and closing cabinets, there’s a chance the force could knock some of the plates over. To prevent this from happening, it’s recommended that you set the plates up as far back to the wall as possible, In addition, only set them up with designated holders that are designed specifically for displaying.

Vinyl Wall Art

Another option available for decorating the space above your kitchen cabinets is to use vinyl wall art. I admit that I’m a huge fan of vinyl wall art. Whether it’s used in the kitchen, bathroom, living room or bedroom, it offers a fun and unique way to create some character. Besides, vinyl wall is super easy to use. Just peel the backing of it and apply the adhesive surface to the wall. However, it’s really only effective in the kitchen when there’s at least 1-2 feet of space between the tops of your cabinets and the ceiling; otherwise, people probably won’t notice it.

Cookbooks

Do you have more cookbooks than you know what to do with? If so, try placing some of the more attractive ones on top of your kitchen cabinets. It’s a great way to show them off in a manner that’s more than suitable for the kitchen. Besides, it will probably help to kick start some ideas when you are sitting around the house trying to think of dinner for the family. Just look up at some of the cookbooks for instant inspiration!
