'Property Brothers' get into a fixer-upper for a growing family

HGTV is an incredible resource for anyone looking to get into DIY home improvements and interior decorating, so, as you'd expect, there's a lot of construction work featured on this channel. One of the most popular shows on the network is "Property Brothers," on which twins Drew and Jonathan convince homebuyers to invest in fixer-uppers and build their dream homes from the inside out, rather than looking for turn-key properties.

Drew takes care of the real estate side of things, while Jonathan gets down and dirty - often with the homeowners themselves - to make the necessary renovations to the house.

On Wednesday's episode, Carrie and Boris, who were expecting a child, were the featured couple, putting the need for a forever home on the fast track. Their wish list was extensive, including a minimum of four bedrooms, storage space, a yard, entertainment space and much more. Unfortunately, their budget of under $700,000 meant that they couldn't get everything they dreamed of. In came the property brothers to create their ideal space on a budget.

Once Carrie and Boris had decided on a fixer-upper and Drew had secured the property for $540,000, Jonathan and company, along with the couple, tucked in and slapped on the safety glasses, disposable respirators and hand protection to demo the entire first floor.

Despite running into a lack of insulation and a huge issue with the plumbing for their extra bathroom, as well as a request from the owners to put in data ports throughout the house, which hit the budget, the couple kept the reno as on track as possible. After just five weeks, Carrie and Boris were blown away by the end result - a modern home ready for a growing family.
