How to Increase Your Energy Levels at Work
Do you suffer from work-related fatigue? Whether you work outside or in the office, you may experience fatigue when clocking long hours. It's a natural phenomenon that occurs when you exhaust your body's energy, either physically or psychologically. And while there's no way to completely avoid fatigue, there are ways to increase your energy levels so that it doesn't hinder your work performance.
Get 8 Hours of Sleep
Try to get at least eight hours of sleep at night. Statistics show that nearly one-third of the U.S. adult population suffers from insomnia. If you fall under this category, you're probably well aware of how it affects your energy levels. Lack of sleep saps your energy, thereby promoting fatigue. You can prevent this from happening by getting at least eight hours of sleep at night.
Cut Out Caffeine
Caffeinated beverages are often touted as a quick pick-me-up for workers. Some workers immediately start their day off with a cup of coffee for this reason. But whether it's coffee, soda or energy drinks, caffeinated beverages are only a temporary solution to low energy. After their stimulating effects wear off, your energy levels will sudden drop. This is why it's recommended that you cut out -- or at least reduce your consumption of -- caffeinated beverages at work.
Eat Breakfast
It's estimated that only one in 10 workers eat breakfast in the morning. There's a reason it's called the most important meal of the day: Breakfast provides your body with the nutrients and energy it needs to make it through the day. If you skip this meal, you're more likely to experience fatigue when the afternoon rolls around. So, be sure to eat a nutritious, balanced breakfast every morning before going to work.
Drink Water
Being that the human body is comprised mostly of water, it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that drinking H2O can increase your energy levels. When you don't drink enough water, everything in your body begins to slow down. These effects cause your energy levels to drop, resulting in midday fatigue. To maintain high energy throughout your workday, drink plenty of water -- preferably about 64 ounces daily.
Exercise
Exercise is one of the best remedies for fatigue. It stimulates blood flow throughout your body while subsequently boosting your energy levels. If possible, try to exercise during your work and lunch breaks.
