6 Tips to Improve Your Memory

6 Tips to Improve Your Memory

Can't seem to remember where you placed your wallet or purse? Everyone will experience memory recollection problems at some point in their lifetime. But when it interferes with your daily life, you know it's a problem. Thankfully, though, there are ways to improve and strengthen your memory.

Get More Sleep

Not surprisingly, lack of sleep is one of the most common causes of poor memory recollection. Sleep, especially the REM stage, allows the brain to reset so to speak. When you sleep, your brain processes all of the thoughts from the previous day's activities. But if you don't get the recommended 7-8 hours of shut-eye per night, your brain won't have the time to perform this action.

Eat More Chocolate

Can eating chocolate really improve your memory? That's what some medical experts believe. According to a study conducted by Harvard Medical School, chocolate of all varieties (milk, white and dark) improved blood flow to the brain; thus, improving memory and overall cognitive function.

Eat More Healthy Fats

The right fats can also improve your memory. It's best to avoid all sources of trans fats while limiting your consumption of saturated fats. In addition, you should increase your consumption of unsautrated fats. Studies have should that polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats contain medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) that prevent degenerative neurological diseases like Alzheimer's while improving memory in the process.

Get Some Sun

Vitamin D plays an important role in brain functions, specifically the functions in the hippocampus and cerebellum regions. These regions are associated with memory, leading many researchers to believe that vitamin D can strengthen and improve a person's memory. So, make it a point to go outside and soak up the sun.

Don't Multitask

If you have trouble remembering things, you should reevaluate the way in which you work. Multitasking has become the norm for many hard-working men and women. But while multitasking may seem like an effective way to produce more work in less time, it doesn't come without its own disadvantages, including memory problems.

Studies have shown that you need roughly 8 seconds for your brain to memorize a piece of information. When you multitask, you may fall short of this 8-second mark, restricting your brain's ability to remember the information.

Play Brain Games

Brain games aren't just for recreation; they can actually improve your memory. There are dozens of brain games, some of which are free while others are paid. These games require the user to remember certain objects, orders and visual elements.
