6 Dieting Tips to Improve Your Health in 2020

What's your New Year's resolution for 2020? According to a recent report published by Inc.com, dieting is the most popular resolution. If you're hoping to lose weight and improve your health in 2020, you should follow the six tips listed below.

#1) Don't Drink Your Calories

Sugary beverages are a common source of excess calories. Just a single 12-ounce serving of a soda, sports drink or fruit juice may contain up to 40 grams of processed sugar or 200 calories. Ideally, you should only drink water. But if you're going to drink a flavored beverage, choose one that's not loaded in sugar.

#2) Avoid Trans Fat

When shopping for groceries, check the nutrition label to see if whether they contain trans fat. If you discover trans fat listed as an ingredient, don't purchase the product. Trans fat has been linked to hundreds of thousands of heart disease-related deaths. It clogs the arteries while raising levels of bad cholesterol.

#3) Beware of Sauces and Condiments

In addition to sugary beverages, sauces and condiments are a common source of excess calories. If you're going to use a sauce or condiment, check to see how many calories it contains. If it's over 50, you should consider a lighter alternative with fewer calories.

#4) Eat More Lean Meats

Meat is an excellent source of protein, but you need to choose the right type so that it doesn't have a negative impact on your health. Rather than choosing fatty varieties of meat, stick with lean varieties. Ground beef and pork are considered fatty, whereas chicken, turkey and fish are considered lean.

#5) Invest in a Juicer

Assuming you don't already own one, you should consider buying a juicer to start the New Year on the right foot. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only about 12% of Americans eat the recommended amount of fruits and veggies in their diet. Using a juicer, you can easily include more fruits and veggies in your diet.

#6) Increase Fiber Intake

Finally, you should try to increase your intake of dietary fiber. Fiber is important because it assists with digestion. The fibrous material doesn't break down completely when consumed. As a result, it's able to push out otherwise harmful bacteria in your digestion system. You can find fiber is a variety of foods, some of which include beans, broccoli, applies, cereal, breads, dried fruits and nuts.
