5 Ways to Protect Your Feet From the Cold Temperatures
With the winter season comes cold temperatures. If your job requires you to work outdoors during this time of year, you should take precautions to keep your feet warm. All parts of your body may get cold when working outdoors during the winter. Your feet, however, are particularly vulnerable to the cold temperatures. The good news is that you can keep your feet warm by taking a few basic precautions.
#1) Choose High-Rise Boots
High-rise boots will provide greater warmth for your feet than their low-rise counterparts. Boots are considered low rise or high rise depending on their height. High-rise boots, as the name suggests, are taller than low-rise boots. They'll extend farther up your ankles to cover and protect more of your skin from the cold temperatures.
#2) Beware of Water
To protect your feet from the cold temperatures, you need to beware of water. Allowing your feet to get soaked during the winter will increase the risk of frostbite. For a safer and more comfortable working experience, you should keep your feet dry at all times. A simple solution is to wear waterproof. You can find high-rise boots that are made of a waterproof material. By wearing waterproof boots, you can rest assured knowing that your feet will stay dry.
#3) Accessorize With Insoles
Another way to protect your feet from the cold temperatures is to accessorize with insoles. Insoles are shoe (or boot) insets. You can place them inside of your boots for an additional layer of thermal protection. Rather than being exposed directly to the bottom of your boots, your feet will be exposed to the insoles. Insoles are typically used to cushion the bottom of shoes or boots, but they offer protection against the cold temperatures as well.
#4) Stay Physically Active
You can keep your feet warm during the winter simply by moving around. Physical activity has a natural warming effect on the body. When you are physically active, blood will move more quickly through your body. This increased circulation will help to keep your feet, as well as your hands, warm.
#5) Wear the Right Socks
Don't forget to wear the right socks. Some types of socks are warmer than others. During the winter, you'll probably discover that wool socks are warmer than cotton socks. They are thicker and heavier than cotton socks, making them a popular choice for this time of year.
