5 Reasons to Drink Filtered Tap Water Instead of Bottled Water
It's something everyone needs yet most people don't get enough: water. Statistics show approximately two in three adults are dehydrated. While you can always drink bottled water to stay hydrated, a better solution is filtered tap water. There are actually several reasons to drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water, some of which we're going to discuss in the following post.
#1) Saves Money
It shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that filtered tap water is cheaper than bottled water. When you purchase bottled water, you are paying not only for the water but also for packaging, production, shipping, handling and more. Therefore, you can expect to pay about five to 10 times more for bottled water than the same amount of filtered tap water.
#2) Better Tasting
Filtered tap water often tastes better than bottled water. Assuming you use a high-quality filtration system, it removes 99.9% or more of all contaminants, including chlorine and lead. The end result is delicious tap water that tastes even better than bottled water.
#3) Eco-Friendly
Another reason to drink filtered tap water instead of bottled water is because it's Eco-friendly. Bottled water is typically packaged in plastic bottles, which unfortunately doesn't degrade very quickly. It can take over 400 years, in fact, for a plastic bottle to fully decompose. If you drink a lot of bottled water, you'll contribute to plastic waste that litters the oceans and forests.
#4) Better Health
Contrary to popular belief, filtered tap water is actually better for your health than bottled water. Not only does bottled water contains higher traces of contaminants, but it also contains plastic-based chemicals known as plasticizers. While most of the plasticizers remain trapped within the plastic bottle itself, some of them will leach into the water. By drinking filtered tap water, you won't be exposed to these potentially harmful chemicals.
#5) Convenience
Finally, filtered tap water is convenient -- more so than bottled water. Drinking bottled water on a daily basis means you'll have to constantly visit the store to purchase new packs of bottled water. If you drink filtered tap water, on the other hand, you'll have convenient and easy access to clean water. Most homeowners install the filtration system on their kitchen sink faucet where it's always just a short distance away.
