3 Ways To Eliminate Weeds From Your Garden

Weed growth in or around your patio can become a serious problem if you don’t take the time to address it. While they may only create an eye-sore at first, they can easily spread and eat away at the structural integrity of your patio and home. The bottom line is that you have to regain control of your patio and the surrounding area to prevent this type of damage from occurring. Thankfully, there are several all-natural methods for treating and preventing the growth of weeds.

Weed Puller

Most home improvement stores sell devices known as “weed pullers” in their gardening section. These are small handheld tools with forked hooks on the end that work to pull the weed up when used properly. I highly recommend investing in a weed puller to use around your patio. Whenever you see a weed beginning to sprout up, take the tool over to it and try to pull it up as close to the root as possible. The more root you’re able to get, the less chance it will have of coming back.

Vinegar

Of course you won’t always have a clean path to access the roots of a weed. When a weed grows in between the cracks and crevasses of a brick patio paver or stone slab, using a weed puller simply isn’t an option. So, how are you supposed to deal with these troublesome weeds? Instead of opting for the use of harsh weed killing chemicals, you should first try spraying vinegar on the weeds. This all-natural product is highly acidic and works to eat away at the weeds. Just purchase a bottle of distilled white vinegar from the grocery store, fill up a spray bottle with it, and then go around your patio spraying any weeds you see. Check back a couple days later and you should see the weeds brown and droopy, which are signs they are dying.

Boiling Water

Some people swear that pouring boiling water on weeds kills them almost instantly. Although I haven’t personally tried it myself, it sounds like an option to consider if you’re having weed problems around your patio or garden. Just remember to use caution anytime you handle boiling water, as you could end burning yourself if it spills. Also, you’ll have to be be pretty quick to prevent the water from cooling off. I recommend sticking with the vinegar method and only using boiling water as a last-ditch resort.
