Safety Lanyard Connectors
Carabiners, also called in US Safety as connectors, are metal loops with spring-loaded gate used to connect to almost any type of safety system available. There are a lot of types of carabiners, and their sizes, features, even shapes, determine how and when it is going to be used.
Is Locking Carabiner the Right Choice for You?
For locking and other types of carabiners that should be used for personal fall arrest in US industries, they have to adhere to OSHA's standard 1910.66 App C. Some industries may also require you to use auto-locking carabiners or connectors, that has ANSI standard Z359.1-2007, but this is still a voluntary consensus standard. If you're going to use carabiners for rescue and emergencies, there is a minimum breaking strength that National Fire Protection Association standard has set, which is called NFPA 1983 Fire Service Life Safety Rope and Equipment.
